Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique (NAET) is a non-invasive technique for clients with sensitivities, intolerances or allergies to foods, environmental substances, animals, etc. or acute or chronic health issues arising from these allergies.
NAET FAQ
Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique
1. What is NAET?
NAET was developed by Dr. Devi S. Nambudripad. She holds a PhD in Acupuncture, Chiropractor and an M.D. Dr. Nambudripad had a clinic in Buena Park, California. She still teaches and does research, although recently retired.
2. What is an allergy?
An allergy is a condition of unusual sensitivity of a person to one or more substances, which may be harmless to the majority of other individuals.
According to NAET theory, in the allergic person, the allergic substance (known as the allergen) is viewed by the brain as a threat to the body's well-being. When contact is made with the allergen, it causes blockages in the energy pathways called Meridians. this disrupts the normal flow of energy throught the body's electrical circuits or system. This energy blockage causes interference in communication between the brain and the body via the nervous system, which then begins a chain of evvents that can develop an allergic response.
3. How do allergies develop?
Doctors and health specialists are not exactly sure why some individuals are susceptible to allergies and others are not. Many times allergies are passed from generation to generation or may skip a generation. Many authorities feel that allergies can be developed in utero when the mother is exposed to certain foods, substances, chemicals, etc.
4. How many different types of allergies are there?
Allergies may develop due to
- Inhalants
- Contactants.
- Infectants
- Genetic Factors
- Ingestants
- Injectants
- Physical Agents
- Molds and Fungi
- Emotional Factors
5. What can people experience from an intolerance/sensitivity/allergy?
One of my mentors says: “Anything can cause anything”. Our brain responds to stimuli in our environment. While a particular stimuli may be harmless or non-triggering for most people, person “X” may have an intolerance, sensitivity or bigger reactivity to that stimuli. This can show up in the body in a variety of ways, often unique to that individual. This is our brain and body’s way to communicate with us!
With NAET we work to discover what is causing an irregularity or imbalance in the body’s energetic field. We use Dr. Devi Nambudripad’s methods to rebalance the energy system and bring this item(s) back into balance and harmony with the body. This often eliminates the previous energetic response to the stimuli.
Many healing traditions stress that the balancing of the energy field can support the body, mind, and spirit in moving towards or maintaining wellness.
6. How long has NAET been in existence?
NAET EBP has been researched and developed over the last 30 years.
7. Why haven't I heard about NAET?
Even though it has been practiced for 30 years, NAET is still considered a relatively new technology. Dr. Devi Nambudripad has personally trained over 12,000 practitioners in NAET. Unfortunately these individual practitioners do not have the tremendous advertising budgets of the pharmaceutical industry to enhance the awareness of this cutting edge technology.
NAET has grown primarily by word of mouth from existing patients and is only now finding its way into the research journals and reference materials.
8. What is a ``clearing`` or ``being cleared`` mean?
This means the individual has been desensitized to the allergen being treated. Simply put, the patient should no longer be reactive to the allergen. The patient should be free from any allergic reactions or their sensitivity to the allergens should be diminished.
Please note that at this time anaphylaxis to a substance is not treated with NAET. More research is being conducted to prove NAET's effectiveness in treating anaphylaxis to allergens.
9. What is the NAET procedure?
According to the theory of Chinese Medicine, the human body has a flow of electrical currents called meridians or energy channels. According to NAET theory, when the body has an allergic reaction, a blockage occurs in the meridians. Blockages of different meridians cause different symptoms. By stimulating specific acupressure points on the back while the person holds the allergen vial, the electromagnetic energy is altered in the patient's body resulting in chemical, enzymatic, and physiological changes that neutralize the immune response and interrupts the antigen-antibody reaction. Theoretically NAET treatment clears the energy blockage and notifies the brain that the allergen has been desensitized.
10. Does NAET help people of all ages?
NAET is effective for individuals of all ages. I have treated pregnant women, infants, children of all ages, adults and the elderly.
11. After a NAET treatment, how long do you have to avoid the allergen?
Allergens must be avoided for a minimum of 25 hours after a treatment. The avoidance period could be longer. The length of time will be assessed at the time of treatment.
12. Can the allergy return?
If the NAET protocols are followed properly and performed by a certified NAET practitioner, the chance of allergy returning is very low.
13. Is there a certain order that must be followed in treating the allergens?
Yes. Food items are treated first, because the body cannot survive and begin to heal without food. By clearing foods first the immune system is strengthened and digestion and absorption improves. NAET protocol specifies that the Basic 15 mixtures must be cleared in this order, one mixture per session.
14. How many treatments will I need?
This is a very difficult question to answer in that everyone has a different genetic makeup, body type, history, and personality. All of these factors come into play in the number of treatments.
15. How can I tell how much training my NAET practitioner has, whether their training is up to date, and whether they are currently certified?
There is a listing on www.naet.com under the "Find a Practitioner" function on the Patients Home Page that shows if a practitioner is currently certified and which classes were taken and when. Your NAET practitioner receives a certificate for each class attended and these certificates should be on display. If they are not on display you should ask to see them. If your NAET practitioner is not currently listed on www.naet.com, you might note on their certificates the year in which their training took place. The minimum training requirement to be a practitioner is two classes: NAET Basic and NAET Advanced-1.
Dr. Nambudripad is constantly evaluating new devices and techniques for improving NAET protocol, so NAET has evolved a lot in the last 3 years. If your practitioner has not been to a NAET class or symposium in the last 3 years, they may not be using the latest advancements in NAET.
Continuing education in NAET is part of maintaining certification as a NAET practitioner. in addition to the required Basic and Advanced-1 classes, Dr. Nambudripad teaches 20 different Advanced-2 classes, designated Advanced-2A through Advanced2-T, which offer training for specific conditions, for example, bowel disorders and Autism.
It is not required that a practitioner have taken all of the twenty Advanced-2 classes, but they should have taken at least one of the Advanced-2 classes within a few years of completing the Advanced-1 NAET class, if they have been practicing NAET for more than a year.
A practitioner is required to attend the annual NAET Symposiums once every 3 years. You can find out if your practitioner has attended a recent Symposium by asking to see their Symposium Program notes.
A NAET practitioner is also required to recertify their NST testing skills annually for the first 4 years of practice and once every 3 years after that. Your practitioner should be able to show you a recent certificate for NST recertification if they have been practicing NAET for more than 2 years.[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title="
16. What is a consultation with Cynthia Okroj like?
The Initial Consultation lasts ninety minutes and consists of an interview, painless, non-invasive testing with Neuromuscular Sensitivity Testing (NST), and a treatment. A treatment plan is discussed.
17. My NAET practitioner is doing something that is not described in Dr. Nambudripad’s books or the Patient Instructions. How can I know if my practitioner is following the NAET protocol?
You are required to read one of Dr. Devi Nambudripad’s books or listen to her book on CD prior to your consultation and to sign a copy of the Patient Instructions, both of which have a lot of information about the NAET protocol. If you are being told that what the practitioner is doing is a “streamlined” version of NAET, be wary. Your practitioner may not be following NAET protocol. If this is the case, you may bet temporary relief of some of your symptoms, but your symptoms may return later.
Also, Dr. Nambudripad has 30 years of experience and data. “Streamlined” versions of NAET do not have this kind of experience behind it and there may be unexpected, negative results if your practitioner is not following the NAET protocol.
Ask questions about what other healing modalities your practitioner uses, and if they are combining any of these with NAET in the same session. For example, if your NAET practitioner is an acupuncturist, only a few ‘extra’ needles, beyond the ten acupuncture points used in the NAET protocol, can be added during a session. It was confirmed with Dr. Nambudripad’s office in 2008 that NAET should not be combined in a single session with other energetic modalities such as BioSet or with the use of devices such as a BioMat or a Photon Analyzer Mat during the session.
18. My practitioner uses Avoid the Avoidance with every session, and I am not having to do any type of avoidance after a treatment. Is this part of the NAET protocol?
Not strictly speaking. Avoid the Avoidance is used in conjunction with the NAET protocol only when it is not possible to do the avoidance. As such, it is to be used only very rarely, not after every NAET session. You must do the avoidance for at least 25 hours unless you are told that there is no avoidance, and why that is, by your NAET practitioner, or you are given other instructions to follow.
19. Why have only some or none of the NAET treatments I’ve received from another practitioner worked?
NAET is not for everyone, and you may be one of those people. There are also reasons that have to do with you or your NAET practitioner that could interfere with your treatment. I would not know this is the case until you were tested.
20. Why is the order specified in the NAET protocol important?
Dr. Nambudripad is continually seeking ways to improve the NAET protocol to make it more efficient. Her 30 years of experience, and that of the thousands of NAET practitioners worldwide in the NAET ‘community’ is reflected in the current protocol.
NOTE: A special thanks to Dr. Steven Popkin, D.C. and Dr. David Popkin, D.C. for their contribution of the foregoing information about NAET.

Cynthia Okroj is a Certified NAET practitioner. She has lived and worked in the USA and overseas.
With a lifelong history of seasonal allergies, and usual health challenges, in 2005 she was suffering with severe pain due to osteoarthritis and taking strong NSAID’s six days a week. Her physician suggested she may want to be tested for food allergies to see if these were at the root of the pain. Shocked by the results (most of the foods eaten every day), Cynthia undertook complete avoidance of all allergens for many months, and learned how good she could feel! Avoiding foods fell by the wayside in time. When introduced to NAET in 2007, she began treatment for her lifelong allergies. It was suggested to her to learn NAET so she could continue with NAET treatments overseas where she was living, as there were no NAET practitioners there. She took her Basic and Advanced-1 NAET classes in April 2008. Due to new protocol she updated her Basic in March 2015 and Advanced 1 in December 2015.
Cynthia has taken these NAET Advanced-2 classes:
- Autism, ADD/ADHD, Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia
- Infertility, Female Disorders, Thyroid Imbalance
- Substance Abuse, Addiction
- Pain Management, Vulvodynia
- Multiple Chemical, Environmental and Seasonal Allergies
- Balancing Organs and Meridians
- IBS, Leaky Gut, Colitis, Crohns, Diverticulitis
- Managing Anaphylaxis through NAET Approach
- NAET Immune System Support
- Inflammation
- Managing Gluten Sensitivities
- Managing Allergy-based Alzheimers and Dementia
- Managing Various kinds of Inflammation
She attends NAET Symposiums regularly.
